Job Summary
The Residence Worker’s role is to teach the Person Receiving Service to safely increase or maintain their abilities and independence, and to monitor and document progress toward goals. Assists clients living semi independently with their physical, economic, vocational, recreational, social, emotional and daily life skills development. Assists clients to achieve the greatest degree of independence and quality of life possible.
Reports to
The Program Coordinator managing the particular program, the Person on Call or the CEO.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Participates in the assessment, goal setting and program planning (Personal Service Plan) for individuals living in a residence. Documents, implements, and provides input into the evaluation of the program.
- Provides life skills training such as meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care skills, personal finance skills and implements personal service plans.
- Assist individuals with activities of daily living such as feeding, lifts, transfers, hygiene, grooming and toileting. This may include transfer of function duties such as gastrostomy feeding, tracheostomy management, and suction and bowel management.
- Participates in various client-focused activities in accordance with care plans.
- Recognizes, analyzes, and deals with potential emergency situations such as aggressive behavior ensuring no harm comes to the individual and/or the public. Reports on problems with the coordinator.
- Administers medication to individuals in accordance with established policy.
- Assists with case management by identifying potential problems and reporting any difficulties. Provides input to counsellor, professional, regarding the development of appropriate program plans to achieve the individuals’ objectives. Contributes to the evaluation of individuals’ progress and prepares reports.
- Provides emotional support and feedback to residents.
- Transport and assist individuals with appointments, shopping, or leisure.
- Performs residence maintenance and housekeeping duties such as laundry, sweeping, mopping floors, mowing lawns, inventory, shopping, cleaning equipment and food services.
- Maintains reports such as shift notes, logbooks, daily activities on residents.
- Identifies social, economic, recreational, and educational services in the community that will meet residents’ needs.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications and Education:
- Grade 12/GED Certificate
- A diploma in human/social services or a related discipline or an acceptable combination of education and experience
- Negative TB test Clearance
- Food Safe Certification
- Clear Health Certificate
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification
- Class 5 Drivers Licence
- Clear and Current Driver’s Abstract
- Criminal Record Check for Children and Vulnerable Adults (Provincial)
- Proof of Immunization Records
Job Skills and Abilities:
A moderate level of physical fitness is required of this position since direct delivery of services may involve walking, standing, kneeling, lifting etc.
This position requires an individual who has strong teamwork skills, good communication skills (written and oral) and good organizational skills. It requires a good understanding of diverse abilities and teaching methods. Augmentative communication skills are an asset for this position. The position requires openness to cultural diversity and support for nurturing family and support networks relationships.

This is a unionized position with the BCGEU Grid Level 10 . The pay range we are offering is $25.95 to start with benefit eligibility and a Pension Plan for any permanent position of 20+ hours.
Hours Per Week:
Thursday to Sunday
Alternating Wednesdays 1500-2300 = 36 hours/week on average
